WESTON, Wis. (WSAU) - Everest Metro Police continue to investigate vandalism at Kennedy Park.
The incidents have been occurring weekly in September, and police and village officials are working together to try and catch the culprits. The vandals have been painting on the bathroom walls, carving into park benches and bashing at the shelter. Captain Clay Schulz says usually this is the work of teenagers in the summer, but they can't be sure now. "Generally speaking we associate this with kids, and we see it increase in the summer months. But now with it being September and kids being back in school, we're not really sure."
The village recently installed security cameras at the park to cover the skate park and aquatic center, but none have caught the vandals in the act yet. Schulz says they're not expecting the damage to be gang-related at this time. "It's pretty generic and vague, the type of writing we're seeing."
At this point in time, all the department can do is stay on the lookout and ask for help. "We do have a lot of extra patrols because of all the activity down at the park. If anyone has any information about it we'd certainly be glad to hear it."
