SPASH parent tased

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - Stevens Point police used a taser on an uncooperative parent Friday at Stevens Point Area High School.

A father had entered SPASH at around 12:30 p.m. looking for his son, but did not sign in at the office, which is the protocol for school visitors. The school’s police liaison officer escorted the man outside, and he remained uncooperative.

Sergeant Tony Babl issued a statement saying the 42-year-old parent was asked for identification, and when he removed his wallet, a large folding knife fell out of his pocket onto the ground. Police ordered the man not to pick up the knife, but the man picked up the weapon anyway. That’s when he was tased and taken into custody. The man is likely to face charges for having a weapon on school grounds, carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct, and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Babl said nobody was injured and no students were threatened during the incident.
