ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (WSAU) -- New management takes over the Patriot Center Tuesday. The large facility attached to the Cedar Creek Mall and the Holiday Inn in Rothschild known for hosting meetings, weddings, trade shows, and conventions will be managed by the Wausau-Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau.

CVB Sales Manager Lisa Berry says the bureau will run the Patriot Center for the owners, which recently reclaimed the property in foreclosure proceedings.  “Our main concern is working for Stoney Rivers to make sure that everything goes as well as planned, all of the events that are planned there go on, and that nothing has to be cancelled. Everything is going to go on smoothly.”

Berry says the CVB will only manage the Patriot Center, and not the Cedar Creek Mall. She says a new staff is ready to both promote and service customers.  “We’ve also hired a full-time staff to be out there at the Patriot Center full-time, and we’ve hired three part-time people to show to be showing place and working with the customers as well.”

Part of Berry’s normal duties is to try and bring events and people to the area, and she’s already getting some leads for new Patriot Center functions.  “Actually, I’ve had three conventions today that would be new business for the Patriot Center interested in going there, and that’s one of my jobs at the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is to bring conventions into our area, and so I’ve set up appointments with them to talk about their space requirement needs and things like that to look at.”

Some of the contacts Berry has talked with believe the Patriot Center has been underutilized, and they’re excited to see changes that can help the area’s overall tourism and business efforts.  “We have wonderful venues, conference centers and hotels all around the community, and this gives us one more place that we can really sell. There’s a lot of potential there.”

The Cedar Creek Mall is now in receivership. Stoney Rivers is the lending company that controlled the property. Foreclosure papers were filed in Marathon County court December 6th, and the court appointed attorney Rebecca Demarb as the receiver. Demarb will determine who markets and manages the mall as the Tom Timblin family leaves the properties they bought from Ed Creske in 2007.
