WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old Wausau girl plead not guilty to the charges on Friday.
38-year-old Praveen Kharb had previously waived a preliminary hearing on charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child and using a computer to facilitate a sex crime.
Kharb is accused of making friends with the Wausau 7th grader by social media over the course of several months. He then travelled to Wausau, where he allegedly assaulted the child in her home March 22nd.
The teen agreed to meet Kharb to “hang out” but the child told police that Kharb approached her to have sex, and she was afraid of being hurt if she said no.
Marathon County detectives tracked down Kharb by locating his computer’s IP address in a hotel room near Seattle. He was arrested by local police and extradited to Wausau earlier this month.
Kharb remains jailed, unable to pay a $750,000 cash bond. He'll be back in court August 8 for a pretrial conference between attorneys.
