Two Monday morning robberies in Stevens Point, suspects caught

by

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Two men are being held for questioning after two Monday morning convenience store robberies in Stevens Point.

Police Sergeant Tony Babl says the first robbery occurred at Southside BP at 3209 Church Street at 8:31 a.m. While officers were investigating that robbery, another one occurred at Westside Mobil on Clark Street, just west of the Wisconsin River bridge.

Babl says the first robbery was very similar to another one that happened July 21st at the same store. The suspect was a lone white male with short blonde hair, wearing a gray colored hooded sweatshirt.

A witness from the second robbery reported a suspect vehicle description. This vehicle was located at approximately 9:01AM in the 3200 block of Michigan Ave and a high risk stop was conducted. Two adult males from this vehicle were subsequently taken into custody. The Portage County Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with this investigation and high risk arrests.

Police are asking the public to come forward with any information or observations they had in the area of the two robberies Monday morning. You can contact Detective Sgt. Joe Gruber at 715-346-1518.
