WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A former Langlade County deputy sheriff was convicted Monday of second degree sexual assault of a child. A plea deal was reached for 26-year-old Michael Brayton of Gleason.
Brayton was originally charged with 22 felonies including sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl, child enticement, and exposing his genitals. As part of the plea deal, 21 charges were dropped.
There were three other female victims between 15 and 18 years old at the time that received text photos of his genitals. All of the incidents occurred in the Elcho area prior to July 2012 when Brayton resigned from the sheriff’s department. He was not on duty when any of the crimes occurred.
Brayton could spend 40 years in prison for this conviction. A sentencing date has been set for April 11th with Marathon County Judge Michael Moran.
