UNDATED (WSAU-WRN-Metro)  Governor Walker says he is supporting his son's decision to be a witness at the same-sex wedding of a family member last month.  The governor called it "perfectly fine" for his son to be involved, and added it's not a policy statement from him to support the family.

Walker's 19-year-old son Alex was an official witness June 9, during the same-sex wedding ceremony of first lady Tonette Walker's cousin and her female partner at the Waukesha County courthouse. The governor says he knew about the ceremony, but could not attend because he was in New York at the time.

Walker, an opponent of same-sex marriage, says his son's involvement was simply about showing support for a member of the family.

The wedding took place during the brief window in June between when a federal judge struck down Wisconsin's constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and then issued an order halting marriage licenses from being issued while the case is appealed.
