Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks’ offense was held in check for majority of the night as they split their series with the Kenosha Kingfish losing 7-2.
The Kingfish (7-5) cashed in early and often off of Woodchucks’ starting pitcher Andy Ravel. The Kingfish scored three runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-run single by Zach Ratcliff.
Three more unanswered runs by the Kingfish in the second and third innings opened the game up with a 6-0 lead.
The Woodchucks (7-5) couldn’t come up with that timely hit as they left the bases loaded twice, once in the second inning and once in the sixth inning.
Paul Schuster came into pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning and shut the Woodchucks down. In three and one-third innings of work, he did not surrender a hit while giving up one unearned run while striking out eight batters.
The Woodchucks take their first extended road trip as they travel to Battle Creek on Saturday and Sunday and then finish up the road trip at Kalamazoo on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Woodchucks next home game will be on Thursday, July 17 when the Battle Creek Bombers make their way to Athletic Park. First pitch is set for 7:05. You can hear the game on Foxsports Radio AM1390 & FM 93.9.
