Even though Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett was once a member of Exodus , he's never appeared on a proper recording by the San Francisco Bay Area metal band -- until now.
Hammett tells Rolling Stone that he's contributed a guitar solo to a song called "Salt in the Wound," which will be included on a forthcoming Exodus album.
"It felt really casual, really cool -- just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day," Hammett said during an appearance at Comic-Con International in San Diego. "Other than the Exodus demo that's been heard by a lot of people, it's the only time I ever recorded with Exodus. It was a huge thing for me."
Hammett is making the most of his visit to Comic-Con. This weekend, he'll sign zombie figures of himself from his Kirk Von Hammett line of toys, and Friday night, he and Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo are scheduled to jam with Exodus. Hammett expects Ozzy Osbourne 's "Diary of a Madman" to be among the 10 to 12 cover songs they'll perform.
