WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WSAU) Renaissance Learning, the Wisconsin Rapids educational software company, was sold to Hellman & Friedman, a private investment company. Earlier this year Google Capital invested $40-million in the company.
The sale price was $1.1-billion. The company had been owned by Primera, also an investment-capital group.
Renaissance will continue to have its headquarters in Wisconsin Rapids.
Renaissance maintains educational records for more than 38,000 school districts. It was founded in 1984 by Terry and Judi Paul. Google will continue as one of the company's prime investors.
