MADISON, WI (WSAU) The Wisconsin Elections Commission is deadlocked on whether to remove about 200,000 people from the state's voter rolls. The commission voted 3-3 on Monday on whether to comply with a judge's order to remove the names. The case is being appealed by the League of Women Voters and the state Democratic party.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the three GOP appointees to the election commission voted for removal. The three Democrat appointees voted against.

The tie vote means the names will stay on the voter lists until further legal action is taken.

The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) sued to get the names removed after the voters in question failed to respond to address verification letters. A Sauk County judge ruled in favor of removal. A legal brief filed by WILL earlier this month says that further appeals should go directly to the state Supreme Court.

Should voters names be removed, they can still re-register on Election Day, but that would need to provide identification and proof of residency,
