Fuel released "Shimmer" as the first single off their album Sunburn in 1998. It peaked at #2 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, #11 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, #37 on Adult Top 40 and #42 on the Hot 100. It was the most played song on U.S. Modern Rock radio in 1998.
"Shimmer" was written by guitarist, Carl Bell, about an ex-girlfriend trapped in a bad marriage.
