MADISON, WI (WSAU)  GOP lawmakers may call a special session of the state legislature before Governor-elect Tony Evers takes office in January.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said, "If we have we made mistakes where we granted too much power to the executive, I’d be open to taking a look and saying ‘what could we do to change that?'" Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said he will discuss the proposal with the GOP caucus today or tomorrow.

Fitzgerald said, "If he [Evers] chooses to introduce a bunch of partisan, liberal policies... he's going to have a lot of failures."

Some areas where Republicans may wish to pass bills could be to limit the Governor's power to undo Act 10 reforms, or the make it more difficult to undo permits surrounding the Foxconn project. The GOP may also want to make the new governor go to the legislature before accepting federal funding to expand medicare.

Evers said during an appearance in Dane County that "it is time to come together." A spokesman for the Governor-elect said a lame duck session would further "the seeds of division."

Scott Walker conceded the race yesterday and said he would not call for a recount. Walker also said he will work with Evers for a smooth transition.

Evers will face divided government when he takes office. Republicans maintained majorities in the state assembly and state senate, where the GOP increased it's margin from 18-15 to 19-14.
