MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -- A man who barricaded himself with a gun in a house has been arrested after an incident in Marshfield this afternoon.

At 12:42 pm Marshfield officers responded to a call at 1907 S. Vine Avenue from an intoxicated man who said his gun was stolen. When officers arrived at the apartment they heard an argument with one person saying there was a gun to their head.

Officers opened the door to the apartment and learned other occupants had taken a handgun from the distraught suspect. Officers confiscated the handgun and evacuated neighboring apartments along with a nearby retirement home.

The male subject, 33-year-old Kurtis J. Wegner took the handgun barricade himself in a back bedroom with access to a revolver and ammunition. After 30 minutes of negotiation between the Marshfield Special Response Team Crisis Negotiators and officers, Wegner peacefully surrendered to law enforcement.

Wegner was taken into custody and awaits medical clearance before being transported to the Wood County Jail. He will be charged with a felony for possession of a firearm and going armed while intoxicated.

Wegner has a previous 2010 conviction for possession of a short-barreled shotgun.
