UNDATED (MetroSource-WSAU) Wildlife officials say the 2018 gun deer season is off to a good start.

More than 118,000 deer were harvested over opening weekend across the state, up more than 13,000 from last year. That’s a 13-percent increase.

The biggest increases in deer harvested were in the southern part of the state. Those zones were up 32-percent. Deer harvested in the central and northern forests were down 5-percent and 2-percent respectively.

The Department of Natural Resources sold nearly 600,000 gun-deer licenses this season.

The gun-deer season runs through Sunday, November 25.
