New music from Skillet is in the works. According to vocalist/bassist John Cooper , the Christian rockers will release their next album in the summer.

"Next summer is the plan for the new Skillet album to come out, because the record is almost done," Cooper tells Consequence of Sound .

Cooper adds that it's "probably too early" to characterize the direction of the new album, but he does have some ideas.

"I do think the new album is going to be a bit heavier, but we're going to have those arena anthems and also some duets with [drummer] Jen [ Ledger ] and me, which our fans love," he says. "I'm excited for it."

Skillet's most recent album was 2016's Unleashed , which featured the singles "Feel Invincible" and "Back from the Dead."

Meanwhile, the debut EP from Cooper's side project, Fight the Fury , titled  Still Breathing , arrives this Friday.
