MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -- A 'Strongman' event held in Marshfield last weekend drew competitors from around the area, and from as far away as Indiana.
That's according to event organizer and Strongman competitor Kyle Boost who says the top men and women won an invitation to the 2020 U.S. Strongman Nationals, which will be held right here in the Midwest next year.
"If you're in the top three for your weight class you would get an invite to the U.S. Strongman Nationals, which is being held next year in Minneapolis, Minnesota. So it's really close to the Midwest. Usually you have to drive halfway across the country to go to it."
Boost says a wide variety of feats of physical strength are involved in the competition. "We have a truck pull, it's a seated pull, hand-over-hand." You're going to basically drag a truck with a big rope."
And at a Strongman competition, of course there's lifting a lot of things, like logs and axles! "We have objects ranging from 200 to 400 pounds for the guys, and 100 pounds to 250 pounds for the girls.
Boost says he plans on growing the event next year, while helping raise even more funds to 'give back' to the local community. "Next year it's going to be twice as big as this and twice as many things to give away. Hopefully maybe we can reach and help a family that has a kid that's in need - in the hospital - someone that really needs it."
A number of local businesses helped put on the event with supplies and donations, and proceeds from this year's competition went to the United Way's NOW program.
