STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -- Stevens Point City Clerk Paul Piotrowski is resigning at year's end to seek another elected office.
It's not clear what office Piotrowskiis seeking, but in a letter to city leaders and the media he said "continuing to serve as an election official would create a conflict of interest, or at least the appearance of."
"I am submitting this letter in advance to provide for an opportunity for the City to select an interim clerk as soon as possible," Piotrowski added. "It has been my honor and a privilege to serve as the City Clerk for the last 16 months. I look forward to the opportunity to serve my fellow citizens in [a] different role in the future."
Piotrowski was appointed as the clerk by Mayor Mike Wiza and approved by the City Council in October 2018. He has also served the Stevens Point Police Department and also has military service on his resume.

Just before his appointment Wiza also noted that Piotrowski has been helping with elections in the city for "decades."
The primary responsibilities of the city clerk include keeping records of city documents and contracts, taking minutes at meetings, and issuing permits. They are also responsible for organizing elections within the city and publishing official notices.
