MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) -- For the third time in eight months, Police in Milwaukee are dealing with the death of one of their own.
An unidentified tactical officer was shot and killed Wednesday morning near S 12th and West Manitoba streets at around 9 AM to execute a search warrant in the area.
A suspect has reportedly been taken into custody.
Attorney General Josh Kaul released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying “I join all of Wisconsin in mourning the loss of one of our brave law enforcement officers. Those who put on the uniform every day put their safety at risk to protect others and to save lives.
“DOJ continues to assist with this investigation and the Law Enforcement Death Response Team is supporting the Milwaukee Police Department.”
Alderman Bob Donovan called it a "very difficult year" for the department.
The officer's body has been taken from Froedtert Hospital to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office. No further information has been released at this time.
