STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -- The UW-Stevens Point class of 2019 become alumni on Saturday.
Two ceremonies are being held on the Stevens Point campus at the Multi-Activity Center. The early 9:30 am ceremony is for the College of Letters and Sciences and the College of Natural Resources. While the afternoon ceremony at 2 pm is for the College of Professional Studies and the College of Fine Arts and Communication.
UWSP Media Relations Director Nick Schultz says the class of 2019 is quite diverse. "The oldest [graduate] is 58, the youngest is 20. Most of our degrees are bachelors degrees, 1,083. They're confirming 66 masters degrees and 5 doctoral degrees."
The keynote speaker for both ceremonies will be one of UW-Stevens Point's distinguished alumnus. "He's Dale Klapmeier. He's a Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cirrus Aircraft. And he graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 1983."
Parking is usually a big concern for graduation ceremonies. Schultz says almost all parking will be open to those attending the commencement ceremony. "You can park anywhere in any of the lots and are free and open to visitors on Saturday. And doors are open about an hour before the ceremonies. So really any time people want to come."
There will still be some tickets available to attend the graduation ceremonies. But most tickets were given to graduating students to give to their friends and family. Schultz recommends that if you would like to attend the ceremony to talk with your graduate or arrive early to get one of the extra tickets available outside the Quandt gym.
UW-Stevens Point's satellite campuses also are graduating a number of students in 2019. The Wausau campus held it's commencement ceremony May 7th with 76 associate degrees handed out. And the Marshfield campus will hold it's commencement Friday night to confer 54 associates and 8 bachelor degrees.
