LOYAL, WI (WSAU) -A police officer in Clark County is recovering after a shooting that ended an hours-long standoff in the town of Loyal.
It all started yesterday when police tried to pull over Robert Domine. He sped away, flashed a gun, then ran away on foot. A little while later the sheriff says they found him in a home. After a few hours of talking, officers went in. That's when the Loyal police say they heard two shots.
Loyal's police chief says they took an officer to the hospital as a precaution. Domine died at the scene, although cause of death has not been determined..
The situation did prompt a lockdown of the Loyal School District until after 3 p.m. Students who rode the bus or drove to school were allowed to leave on their own. But any children who walked to school had to be picked up by a parent in the high school gym.
Members of the Clark County Sheriff's Department, the Loyal Department, and the Marshfield Police Department were on the scene. The Marshfield Police Department did arrive with an armored vehicle.
