WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -- The Fazoli's restaurants in Wausau and Stevens Point are facing fines for violating child labor laws.

Children are not allowed to work for more than 3 hours on school days, more than 8 hours on non-school days, or before 7am or after 7pm if they are under 16. A federal Department of Labor investigation found three violations at the Wausau location and one violation in Stevens Point.

“Child labor laws exist to ensure that when young people work, the work does not jeopardize their health and well-being or educational opportunities,” said Wage and Hour Division District Director Karen Garnett-Civils in a statement.

In all five Fazoli's and 35 Wendy's restaurants in Wisconsin were cited. All the locations are owned by the same franchisee, Manna, Inc. of Louisville, Kentucky.

Manna, Inc. faces a fine of $157,000 for violating the Fair Labor Standards Act. The franchisee has not commented on the investigation, and hasn't said if they'll file an appeal. Manna is accused of violating the rules for child labor at 99 locations in 9 states.
