MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Wisconsin are up Monday, but the state is also reporting fewer than 500 new cases. No new deaths were reported for the second day in a row; the death toll in Wisconsin remained at 820.

Wisconsin hospitals said they were caring for 283 patients with positive tests for coronavirus, 19 more than on Sunday and the second-most in four weeks. Of those, 85 were receiving intensive care, 11 more than on Sunday. Another 145 were waiting for their test results.

Meanwhile, the state Department of Health Services reported 494 new positive tests and 6,127 negative tests on Monday. Both the number of new cases and the 7.5% positive test rate were down from Sunday’s totals.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 36,942 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 659,479 negative tests. DHS considers 28,670 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus, as of Monday.

As of Monday morning, hospitals in the state had 1,256 ventilators, with 296 in use. Of the 11,409 hospital beds in Wisconsin, 2,854 were available.
