MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -- Marshfield's Chief of Police has taken a voluntary leave of absence

City Administrator Steve Barg has confirmed Chief Rick Gramza announced the move on Monday, but would not comment about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In the meantime, Assistant Chief Patrick Zeps will be handling operations for the department. Barg says Zeps and the rest of the city's officers will continue to provide "professional law enforcement services during the Chief’s absence."

No further information will be released at this time.

EDITORS NOTE: This story has been updated to correct the wording regarding Gramza's leave. He has taken the leave on his own accord, and was not placed as an earlier headline suggested. WSAU news regrets the error.
