STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -- Things are beginning to return to normal at the Stevens Point City Hall.
Mayor Mike Wiza says as of this week, the building has reopened to the public with some changes to protect employees from the spread of COVID-19.
"We want to keep you six feet apart, and we prefer that you wear a mask," said Wiza. He adds that for those that still aren't comfortable going out in public just yet, most everything can still be done online.
"Almost everything that needs to be done between normal citizens and the city can be done online or through a phone call. But, if you have to show up, you will see some Plexiglas barriers up to protect our employees. Maybe a changing of hours [as well]. But, our city staff is back to their normal work routine."
Like many other public buildings, the city has also put floor markings down to remind people to keep a safe distance between themselves and others.
Public meetings will continue to be held remotely in June, but Wiza says you can expect those to begin to return to normal by July.
"I imagine we will have a remote option through July and August until people feel comfortable getting back into those larger groups."
As of Sunday, Portage County had reported 12 positive tests for COVID-19, the infection caused by Coronavirus. Eight of those cases are considered recovered, and the county has reported no deaths.
Wiza adds that the county's health department has so far given the green light for gatherings of 50 or fewer people.
