Rodgers steps to the plate

Million dollar pledge for fire relief

A native of Chico, California, Aaron Rodgers grew up next to the small town of Paradise.   He played a lot of youth basketball and football games there, had Paradise residents as teammates in junior college.

The devastating wildfires in California have all but obliterated the town of Paradise.  More than 80 people have died and hundreds are still unaccounted for.   Property damage will soar into the billions.

Today, Rodgers posted a tweet offering one million dollars to aid the relief and recovery effort in the wake of the Camp Fire in the northern part of the state.

Rodgers also said State Farm Insurance, for which he serves as a commercial spokesman, has offered to pledge one dollar for every time Rodgers' post is retweeted, up to a full match of another million dollars.

After the Packers practice, Rodgers met with reporters to talk about his public effort when he donned a Santa Monica Fire Department cap for his post game press conference two weeks ago.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy said it should come as no surprise that Rodgers is stepping forward.
