Everclear released "I Will Buy You A New Life" as the second single from their 1997 album
So Much for the Afterglow.
It peaked at #3 on the Hot Rock Tracks chart and also got significant play on Top 40 radio. It hit #20 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks chart and #31 on the Top 40 Mainstream chart.
When lead singer Art Alexakis's daughter was a baby he and his ex-wife would drive around to look at the big houses in a fancy neighborhood and he would make promises to give her a new life, a better life. After the success of Everclear he bought one of those fancy houses in that fancy neighborhood.
