Adams County women accused of animal abuse

TOWN OF STRONGS PRAIRIE, WI (WSAU) -- Two women from Adams County are facing animal abuse charges after Sheriff's officials discovered more than 30 malnourished horses under their care.

According to a release Kimberly Schmid, 55, and Sandra Gorman, 57, were arrested after officers received a tip about the property located in the Town of Strongs Prairie. Upon arrival, they found two dead horses and 34 others in "varying degrees of declining health and malnourishment.” A third horse was eventually put down.

The animals were seized are now under the care of Veterinarians who are in charge of the care and “eventual disposition of the animals.” Sheriff's officials say Schmid could be charged with one count of mistreatment of animals causing death and 25 counts of failure to provide proper food to a confined animal. Gorman could face two counts of mistreatment of animals causing death.
