WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- A Wausau man will serve three years of probation for stalking a woman he wanted to have a relationship with.
Carl Martens must also take his medication and undergo court-ordered counseling after he pleaded no contest to five of the seven counts against him, including False Imprisonment and 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
In exchange for the plea, a count of Stalking with Use of a Dangerous Weapon will be put on hold until the end of the probationary period in 2021.
A judge also ordered Martens to issue a letter of apology to the woman and undergo 150 hours of community serves.
Back in August Martens met the girl along the Riverfront trail and demanded to talk to her. When she said no, he blocked her vehicle which led her to threaten to call the Police. He then let her leave, but followed her and rear-ended her car at a stoplight. Martens then got out of his car and jumped on the hood of her vehicle before taking one of her windshield wipers and jumping off.
Martens then drove his car into a tree, nearly striking two bicyclists in the process. He was treated and released from an area hospital for injuries suffered in the accident.
According to the woman he was upset because the two had met up as friends over a one-month period, but she didn't want to pursue a relationship with him.
