Wisconsin Rapids man pleads guilty to tax evasion

MADISON, WI (WSAU) -- A Wisconsin Rapids man has pled guilty to a federal count of tax evasion for the 2013 tax year.

Russell Broga, the former owner and operator of A-1 Services of Wisconsin Rapids, admitted to taking customers personal checks and depositing them into a personal bank account instead of his business account then keeping the records from his bookkeepers.

Broga is also accused of skimming funds in tax years 2014 and 2015 as well. Officials say the total amount withheld from his business account for the three years is over $147 thousand.

Sentencing in the case was scheduled for December 19th at 11 AM. Broga faces up to five years in federal prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

A-1 Services of Wisconsin Rapids provided various services such as tree transplanting and maintenance along with asphalt paving and maintenance.
