90s at 9 Don't We All Wish We Could Metaphorically Blow Up The World At Times?

Chris Cornell wrote this about his wish to retreat from the people and pressures of everyday life.

Soundgarden released "Blow Up The Outside World" in 1996 off their 5th studio album Down on the Upside. It spent 4 weeks at the top of the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. 

Chris Cornell wrote this entirely on his own and instead of writing it around riffs as he normally would he wrote the vocal melody and built the song around that. 

Cornell wrote this about his wish to retreat from the people and pressures of everyday life. In an interview once the interviewer asked him "If you could blow something up on the outside world, what would it be?" Cornell replied with: stupid people, mini malls, racists, and hardcore religious rights people.
