90s at 9 'Everlong' Is Not About Kurt Cobain

Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl wrote this about a dark time in his life.

"Everlong" is the second single from Foo Fighters second studio album The Colour and The Shape  in 1997.

Some people think this song is about the drug addiction habits of Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl's former band mate Kurt Cobain. However, Grohl said in an interview with Mojo Magazine  that the song is actually about a dark time in his own life, Christmas 1996, right after his first marriage to photographer Jennifer Youngblood fell apart. He was sleeping in a sleeping bag on a friend's floor after having lost his home in the divorce, he had no access to his bank accounts, his Foo Fighters band mates were ready to quit. In the midst of all this he wrote "Everlong."

Dave Grohl said this song is about "being connected to someone so much that not only do you love them physically and spiritually, but when you sing along with them you harmonize perfectly."

Grohl once again called in The Moog Cookbook to play a goofy electronic version of this song to kick off the video for "Learn To Fly," in a scene were Jack Black and Kyle Gass (AKA Tenacious D) are cleaning an airplane.
