90s at 9 Fame Is Too Much, But Not Having It Is Worse

Jonathan Davis talks about how hard it is to be famous, but how miserable he would be without fame.

Korn releasesd "Got The Life" in 1998 off their Follow The Leader album. It reached #15 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and #17 on the Modern Rock Tracks charts.
After releasing two successful albums Korn's frontman, Jonathan Davis, was questioning whether or not he wanted the fame and pressure that came with them and that's what inspired "Got The Life." When asked about the song Davis said, "It's about how everything's always handed to me, how I look up to God and say I don't want this anymore. Like I want something more out of life than all this. And I've got everything I really need, but sometimes I don't like it and I don't know how to explain it. I have to sit through the songs more to actually get into what I write. I really and truly know the meanings of the songs... almost. But it's like I'm haunted by demons that influence my writing. It's a give or take of that. I mean I love being a rock star, I love all that it entails, but I hate all the pressure and all the bulls--t's that involved. And I'm asking God, you know, take this away and make me happy. But he's telling me, 'hey, you got the life. You get to see the world, you get to do this, you get to be in a great big band.'

My mindset when I was writing the song was that I was really down on everything. It's like I'm sick of this bulls--t, all the stress and the pressure. But if it were all gone, I'd be in even more hell."

"Got The Life" was one of two singles ("Freak On A Leash" was the other) released from Follow The Leader and the album hit #1.

Nikki "Nikilicious" Montgomery

I'm a Central Wisconsin girl born and raised. I grew up in Port Edwards and participated in cheerleading, basketball, volleyball and softball as well as many clubs like National Honor Society, SADD, yearbook and forensics. I was a very busy high school student and still managed to get good enough grades to go to college at UW-Stevens Point where I was just as busy between working 3 jobs including executive staff positions at the campus alternative rock radio station and volunteering at the campus television station.

After graduation I thought I would take my BA in Mass Communications with emphasis in Broadcasting and Journalism and Minor in Political Science and become a big time reporter in some major city. But instead my internship with our news station here at Midwest Communications turned into a part-time job and opened the door to the morning show co-host position at WDEZ. After 9 1/4 years of fun in the mornings I was promoted to Assistant Brand Manager and moved to The Workday Getaway.

I couldn't deny my love for rock anymore! It was time dive head first into the genre I spent my formative years listening to day in and day out. When the opportunity arose for me to become the Brand Manager for Rock 94.7 and host the morning show I couldn't pass it up.

I'm so happy that I stayed in Central Wisconsin I couldn't imagine raising my three daughters anywhere else.
