90s at 9 'Lump' is a Girl

Not a very appealing nickname for a not very appealing girl.

The Presidents of the United States of America released "Lump" in 1995 off their self titled album. It reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and #7 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
The song is a story about a girl nicknamed "Lump" whose life if a waste and and she's easily taken advantage of.
"Lump" was a big success for Seattle band, The Presidents of the United States of America, but they took some heat. A lot of people felt like their success was the end of Grunge and the "Seattle sound." Chris Cornell, a staple in the Seattle music scene, came to their defense stating that Seattle had always been home for a wide array of genres, but they were overshadowed by the power of Grunge in the early to mid 90's.
