90s at 9 Nine Inch Nails 'Closer'

#1 on VH1's 20 Greatest Music Videos of All Time

Nine Inch Nails released the song "Closer" in 1994 off the album "Closer To God." If you didn't own this album you were no friend of mine.

This song is basically about an obsession that can't be controlled. I guess that made it the perfect song (a remix version) to be featured in the opening credits of the movie Se7en starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gweneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey. The movie is about a serial killer obsessed with the 7 deadly sins.

"Closer" is arguably Nine Inch Nails best known song. It reached #11 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart and #41 on the Billboard Hot 100. The video got significant airplay on MTV and was voted #1 in VH1's "20 Greatest Music Videos of All Time." The video was shot on a hand-crank camera from 1919 to help give the video the aesthetic it needed to portray a mid 19th century mad scientist's laboratory.

Songwriter and lead singer, Trent Reznor actually said that this was a rare instance where he thought his own song sounded better with the music video.
