"Live And Let Die" was originally written by Paul and Linda McCartney and performed by Wings in 1973 as the theme to the James Bond film Live And Let Die. It was commissioned specifically for the movie and was produced by former Beatles producer George Martin.
In 1984, Weird Al Yankovic asked McCartney if he could do a parody of "Live And Let Die" called "Chicken Pot Pie." He did this out of courtesy because to do a parody you do not need permission. However, McCartney, a vegetarian, said no because he didn't want to promote the consumption of meat. Yankovic, a vegetarian himself, understood and didn't record the song. However, he has performed it live.
In 1991, it was covered by Guns N' Roses and it reached #20 on the Mainstream Rock chart and #33 on the Hot 100. It was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1993. This was the second time the song had been nominated for a Grammy award, the first being the Wings version in 1973.
