WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- The very first meeting of Wausau's Parks and Recreation Dog Park Special Committee will take place Monday at city hall.

The seven-member group will be chaired by Alderperson Tom Neal and will be saddled with the task of reviewing current plans for the envisioned space.

Wausau has been talking about constructing the park in a two-acre parcel near the downtown post office for several months now. The project comes with an expected price tag of over $134,000. Municipal funding for the project was left out of the 2019 Wausau City Budget, however, citizen groups have been established with the goal of securing funding for the project.

The Town of Rib Mountain recently cut the ribbon on Sandy's Bark Park, an off-leash dog park located along County Road R. Weston has had a dog park for more than a decade now.

Monday's committee meeting is set to begin at 5:15 PM in the City Hall Birch Room, just after the full Parks and Recreation Committee meeting in the Council Chambers.
