TOWN OF WEIN, WI (WSAU-WAOW) - A man drowned in a pond on private property in the Town of Wein on Sunday.
Family members reported the 73-year-old man as missing around 6 PM. When first responders arrived they found fishing gear and his cellphone on the ice of a pond. The Marathon County dive team was called to assist in the search. The man's body was recovered and removed from the water several hours later.
The victim's name has not been released.
The pond is on private property near Alpine Road.
Officials warn that in many areas the ice is not strong enough to support a person's weight.
