MILWAUKEE, WI (MetroSource-WSAU) It's a grand hop-ening.

The Milwaukee streetcar opens to the public Thursday.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 12:30pm at Cathedral Square Park. The first streetcars will run through midnight Friday, with regular service every 15 minutes on Saturday and Sunday.

Rides on The Hop are free for the first year thanks to the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino.

The Hop’s loop connects the lakefront, downtown, and the city’s recently renovated intermodal center. Milwaukee is already working on an expansion to the Bucks new arena.
