Tuesday marked the third anniversary of the November 2015 Paris terrorist attacks, which included the mass shooting at the Bataclan concert hall during an Eagles of Death Metal concert, resulting in the death of 90 people. Frontman Jesse Hughes , who returned to Paris for the first and second anniversaries, was unable to make it this year after being involved in a bike accident.

In a sorrowful Instagram post, written in French, Hughes writes that he was recently riding his bike when he was hit by car. He still intended to make the trip to Paris after the accident, but then he started feeling the effects of a concussion and felt he had to go the emergency room. Hughes was then told he had a severe case of whiplash and that he could not fly for five days.

At the time, Hughes writes, the doctor's orders made sense to him, but on the day of the anniversary, he felt deep regret that he did not fly to Paris anyway.

"I think I should be there with you and I made a very big mistake," Hughes writes. "I hope you can forgive me for not being there."
