AMHERST, WI (WSAU) - One person is dead after a Thanksgiving night crash in Portage County. It happened around 6pm in Amherst.
The Portage County Sheriff's Department says a westbound vehicle on US 10 lost control and hit another car near County Road B. One of the vehicles overturned and came to rest on its roof.
Weather was likely a factor. A rain and sleet mix was falling at the time, making the road slick.
The name of the victim hasn't been released, and its unclear which vehicle they were in. Several others were transported from the scene by ambulance.
Traffic was detoured onto County Road A and KK for several hours.
