Earlier this month, Mike Shinoda wrapped his first North American solo tour behind his new album, Post Traumatic . During each show, Shinoda would pay tribute to his late friend and band mate Chester Bennington before launching into a rendition of the Linkin Park classic "In the End." Speaking to Kerrang! , Shinoda explains what that moment felt like.
"It's emotional every night," Shinoda says.
"It's part of the set that I tailor to each individual audience; I just read the crowd and speak from the heart," he continues. "Some nights we have fun, even comical back-and-forth. Some nights it can be sad. Some nights it can even get a little political."
However, Shinoda says that he doesn't want the show to "boil down to that one moment of tribute."
"I don't think this should ever become a memorial," he explains. "I'm aiming for a vibrant, meaningful experience with a lot of different moods."
"I just couldn't live with that sort of funeral feeling day in, day out," Shinoda adds. "It would depress me to the point where I would just want to go home."
Shinoda will launch a European tour behind Post Traumatic in 2019.
