SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) - Shawano Police are investigating the death of an infant.

Friday Afternoon, Police were called for a welfare check at a residence in the City of Shawano.

"When officers responded, they went into the house and found the two-month-old infant deceased, " said Police Chief Dan Mauel.

Mauel says that led to an investigation, one they have to take their time with.

"We have to do the whole thing cautiously and do it meticulously."

He says the procedure is typical protocol when bodies are found inside a residence.

"Deceased people who are found in homes where the cause of death cannot be determined immediately calls for an investigation and that is what we are doing.

Mauel says once they have a cause of death, they will be able to determine if they need to pursue the issue any further.
