WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU)  A Wisconsin Rapids man was convicted of a lesser charge in the death of his 15-month old son. 33-year-old James L. Georgeson had been charged with first degree reckless homicide. He entered a ‘no contest’ plea and was found guilty of second degree reckless homicide.

A criminal complaint said Georgeson beat his son after the child dropping a sippy cup and spilled his milk.

He initially told police that he called 911 when the child had trouble breathing during a nap. Doctors at Marshfield Medical Center said the boy had bruising on his forehead and around his eye from blunt force trauma and was unconscious when he arrived at the emergency room in February, 2017. The child later died from internal bleeding around his brain.

Georgeson will be sentenced on December 14. The Wood County DA says he will argue for the maximum 17 years in prison.
