WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- Governor candidate Tony Evers stopped in Wausau on Wednesday afternoon to promote his new prescription drug plan.

Speaking at the Marathon County Democratic Party Office, Evers discussed his plans to lower prescription drug costs in Wisconsin. Two speakers before Evers shared their own experiences and difficulties with the current healthcare system. Both testimonies focused on the rising prices for prescription drugs in the state of Wisconsin for those with insurance.

Part of Evers plan includes setting up system used in other states to stop price gouging. "Putting this plan together, it's done in other states. Where we actually have a person or a board who actually has an opportunity to make sure that price gouging does not happen in the state of Wisconsin."

He also mentioned that importing prescription drugs from Canada would help lower costs. "We're going to make sure that we're able to purchase the drugs from Canada. Prescription drugs from Canada because it's cheaper there. They've been able to do that in Canada."

Evers stresses that lawmakers in Wisconsin need to be proactive about lowering the skyrocketing prescription drug costs. "The costs are excessive and we just can't wait for some accident to happen. Or wait for people to have struggles like the two people that were talking in there. We need to be proactive around it. The people of Wisconsin need protection from the gouging that these pharmaceutical companies do."

Ever's prescription drug plan would also include expanding SeniorCare. Evers also addressed the new Marquette Poll that has the race within the poll's margin of error. He feels his campaign has real solutions for the people of Wisconsin and will continue to cross the state bringing those solutions to the people.
