WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOU)  The Randlin Homes homeless shelter will stay open in Wausau thanks to an anonymous donation.

Randlin Homes was out of money and was about to shut down their shelter on McClellan Street. Then an anonymous donor gave them $15,000.

“Wonderful, we hadn’t been able to pay rent for 10 months, this donor cleaned up everything for us,” Randlin Homes Vice President Gary Hall told WAOW-TV. “Now we’re moving in here with our head barely above water, but we’re not in the hole.”

The money was just enough to get Randlin Homes out of the hole. But they are downsizing facilities. They will relocate to their old veterans home on South 4th Avenue and will have fewer beds available.

The shelter takes in anyone who is homeless and helps them get and stay sober. “We were the only place in town that took people that were truly homeless without money, we took them if they couldn’t pay rent,” said Hall. “We’ve had some very good success.”

There are three residents of the home left who are moving into the new home. However, Hall says they need more donations to continue to operate. Donations can be sent to P.O. BOX 1488 Wausau WI 54402-1488.
