MILWAUKEE, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network) -- UW Milwaukee has removed advertisements for a criminal justice course after complaints about a depiction of a black student wearing police tape as a scarf.

UWM said the advertisement was part of a larger campaign that depicted people of various races and ethnicities, and that the police tape was used "in an effort to add interest to the photos." A spokeswoman told the Journal Sentinel that the ad campaign was created in 2013 and has not changed other than being updated to include current students.
