90s at 9 Deadbeat Dads Listen Up

"Father Of Mine" is a message to deadbeat dads.

Everclear released "Father of Mine" off their So Much For The Afterglow album in 1998. The song made it to #4 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and reaching #23 on the Adult Top 40 and #24 on the Mainstream Top 40 charts.

Singer/songwriter Art Alexakis says this is one of the few songs he's ever written that is autobiographical. "Father Of Mine" is about his own father walking out on his family and is a message to other deadbeat dads. He said it was cathartic to put his feelings about his father into words. He doesn't speak to his father so he doesn't know if he's heard the song, but his stepsisters who were raised by his father did and they were not happy about it.
