90s at 9 Temple of the Dog "Say Hello 2 Heaven" Tribute to Andy Wood

Loss of a Friend Not Only Inspired a Song But A Group

"Say Hello 2 Heaven" was the second release from Temple of the Dog's 1991 self-titled album. It reached #2 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
Lead singer, Chris Cornell wrote the song as a tribute to his friend Andy Wood, lead singer of the Seattle grunge band, Mother Love Bone, who died of a heroin overdose in 1990.
Right after Andy died Soundgarden went to Europe and he found himself not being able to talk about his loss. While there Cornell wrote 2 songs in his honor. "Reach Down" and "Say Hello 2 Heaven" that is how he dealt with it.
Temple of the Dog was formed by Cornell, his Soundgarden bandmate Matt Cameron and Mother Love Bone members Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard.
