MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -- It's the Marshfield Professional Police Association's first-ever "Shop with a Cop" event being held in Marshfield later today; and Officer Julie Leu-Martinek says 10 middle school-aged kids can spend quality time with members of the Marshfield PD, while choosing Christmas gifts for themselves, and most importantly, for others too!
Leu-Martinek explained how the program works. "This group of children were identified as children that would benefit from getting to have a positive interaction with law enforcement. Each child will be partnered with a police officer from our department and then get the opportunity to shop for Christmas presents for themselves or for other loved ones in their lives."
Each shopper gets $50 for themselves, and another $50 to spend on someone 'special to them,' followed by a free dinner at Subway. Funding for the event comes from the Marshfield Professional Police Association, and Walmart is also providing funding for two of the shoppers.
'Shop with a Cop' happens Thursday afternoon from 4:00-5:30 at the Marshfield Walmart, and organizers hope the event can become an annual tradition to make sure that area children can have a Merry Christmas.
